ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — In a story July 5 about Algeria marking 50 years of independence from France, The Associated Press erroneously reported based on a conversation with a French historian that the number of French soldiers killed in World War I was less than 300,000 to 400,000. French archives show more than 1.3 million military personnel listed as "died for France."
