WASHINGTON (AP) — The No. 3 Republican in the House says Congress should get all the facts about the Colorado shooting rampage before tackling any legislation on guns. California Rep. Kevin McCarthy was asked Monday about a call to reinstate an assault weapons ban. Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter of Colorado suggested Sunday that Congress take that step after Friday's shooting that left 12 people dead and 58 others injured at a packed midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises." Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey also is pressing for a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines. McCarthy's comments underscored that proponents of gun control measures face tough opposition in Congress.
