Stronger earnings reports from Mattel, Coca-Cola and other big companies pushed the Standard & Poor's 500 index up for only the fourth day this month. Mattel jumped 10 percent, more than any other company in the S&P 500. The country's biggest toy maker said net income rose on better sales of Barbie dolls and lower advertising costs. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 78.33 points, or 0.6 percent, to 12,805.54. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 10.03 points, or 0.7 percent, to 1,363.67. The Nasdaq composite index gained 13.10 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,910.04. For the week: The Dow is up 28.45, or 0.2 percent. The S&P 500 is up 6.89, or 0.5 percent. The Nasdaq is up 1.57, less than 0.1 percent. For the year: The Dow is up 587.98 points, or 4.8 percent. The S&P 500 is up 106.07 points, or 8.4 percent. The Nasdaq is up 304.89 points, or 11.7 percent.
