IGLS, Austria (AP) — Martins Dukurs of Latvia retained the European skeleton title with his seventh World Cup win of the season Saturday. Dukurs led after the first heat of the competition, which also counted as the European championship, and set a track record in the second to finish with a combined time of 1 minute, 45.13 seconds. Alexander Tretjyakov of Russia was 0.75 behind in second, while Dukurs' brother Tomass came in third, 1.35 behind. Martins Dukurs also moved further ahead of his second-place brother in the overall World Cup standings, with 1,785 points to Tomass' 1,562. If Martins Dukurs also wins in Sochi in February, he will earn a $135,000 bonus awarded by governing body FIBT for the athlete who takes the last three World Cup races of the season.
