EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Aries Merritt posted the best time in the world this year in the 110-meter hurdles, winning at the U.S. track trials in 12.93 seconds for a place on the Olympic team.

Jason Richardson, the reigning world champion, was second in 12.98 and Jeffrey Porter finished third in 13.08 to round out the team for the London Games. David Oliver, the bronze medalist in Beijing, finished fifth.

Liu Xiang of China ran the hurdles in 12.97 seconds in May, the fastest time before Merritt's finish at Hayward Field on Saturday.
