COMMERCE, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M-Commerce coach Guy Morriss has resigned after the Lions went 1-9 this season. The school announced the resignation Monday, two days after the team lost 45-14 to West Texas A&M. Morriss was hired by the Division II school in January 2009 after coaching at Baylor and Kentucky. He was 10-41 in four seasons at A&M-Commerce. Morriss drew headlines in March 2010 when he apologized for praising his players after they were accused of removing campus newspapers from their racks because of a negative story about the program. Morriss will remain as a special assistant to the athletic director for fundraising and special projects. A&M-Commerce will immediately begin the search for a new football coach.
