A newly released study by a University of Minnesota doctoral student, a Southern Illinois University wildlife ecologist and the research-minded Cougar Network says 178 scientific confirmations of cougars have been documented in the 14 largely Midwestern states and some Canadian provinces from 1990 to 2008.
