Rutgers Crossroads

Rutgers Crossroads

In this Friday, June 15, 2012 photo, people walk by the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine research building and School of Public Health of The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, in Piscataway, N.J. Under a plan to reconfigure three state universities, Rutgers University would get a medical school of its own. Gov. Chris Christie proposed having it absorb the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and two other parts of what’s now the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Lawmakers are looking at an alternate idea of having Rutgers control nearly all of UMDNJ, a move that would also call it the New Jersey Medical School. The highest-ranked public universities in the U.S. all have medical schools. It’s that list that Rutgers officials seek to join. (AP Photo/Mel Evans)
